Futurism is proud to announce a publishing deal for our first book: Cartoons From Tomorrow to be published by Running Press, a division of Hachette Book Group. Based on our Futurism Cartoons Instagram, Cartoons From Tomorrow will feature 125 single-panel comics, including 80 brand new cartoons never before featured on our Instagram – written by Luke Kingma and illustrated in our signature black-and-white style by Lou Patrick Mackay.
From artificial intelligence and augmented reality, to alien life and the space colonies of the future, these cartoons hit every futuristic topic – but with a satirical twist. Likewise, the book acknowledges the achievements of top players in science and technology including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Sophia, the humanoid robot.
"Science fiction plays an enormous role in shaping public understanding and sentiment around emerging technology,” says Kingma. “Just look at the conversation sparked by series like Black Mirror and Westworld.”
“With Futurism Cartoons, we wanted to go even deeper. We wanted those conversations to happen every day, not every 1-2 years. We also wanted to break out of the habit of asking, 'What's the worst that could happen?' Technology can be good. It can also be weird. Those stories aren't really being told."
The book is set to release nationwide in September 2019, after negotiations led by Eve Atterman at WME and by Geoff Clark, President of Futurism Studios. To celebrate, we're releasing limited edition custom Cartoons From Tomorrow t-shirts, featuring our fan-favorite designs. You can shop all the designs now at the Futurism Studios store.
