Samsung is Delaying the Galaxy Fold's Launch After Broken Screens

Samsung has yet to comment on the delay, which could be a turning point against much-hyped folding phones.

Samsung's game-changing Galaxy Fold — essentially a $1980 seven inch tablet that can fold in half like a book — has had a rough start.

Review units of the phone started breaking just a single day into testing. First the Verge reported that Samsung had delayed the launch in China. And now, according to the Wall Street Journal, the sale of the device has been delayed "by at least a month" in the United States.

Samsung has yet to comment on the delay, which could be a turning point against much-hyped folding phones.

A Bad Week

Last week was not kind to Samsung. Some reviewers peeled off a protective layer — usually a routine move for any new smartphone — breaking the entire display. The Verge found a small bulge under its review unit's display, which eventually broke as well.

Samsung released a statement in response stating "we will thoroughly inspect these units in person to determine the cause of the matter," adding that "removing the protective layer or adding adhesives to the main display may cause damage. We will ensure this information is clearly delivered to our customers."
