This week, we’re pleased to bring you a different version of Futurism, containing stories from the horizon of hedonism. Welcome to The Science of Pleasure. In collaboration with our friends over at MEL Magazine, this week, we’ll be bringing you stories from both publications about the pleasures of tomorrow, today.

To know Tesla is to know its fans: more zealous than Honda drivers, more moralistic than Ferrari fiends — true believers in the power of EVs and Elon Musk.

Maybe it’s not surprising, then, that some of that pent-up energy has resulted in Tesla porn. Yes, Tesla porn.

“Videos of people getting it on in Teslas have been floating around the tubes for at least a couple years now,” Geoffrey Celen, the proprietor of porn review site The Porn Dude, told us. “Porn is an industry that thrives on little twists to the same formulas, so the biggest surprise here is that Tesla porn isn’t more popular than it is now.”

People have been getting desperate and naked in cars for as long as they’ve had them — ever seen “Titanic”? — but Tesla’s devout followers represent an eager new market.

“People have always loved the thrill of semi-public sex in a moving vehicle,” Celen said. Tesla porn is “fun and futuristic,” he added, “and you get a topical element since Elon Musk is constantly in the news. That sounds like a solid gimmick to roll into a porno.”

But Tesla’s true sex appeal seems to lie in its sleek, computerized dash — and particularly what’s hidden beneath it: Autopilot and Full Self-Driving, a pair of controversial features that provide limited self-driving capability for the vehicles, though as critics are quick to point out, both still require the driver’s full attention on the road.

Those features are the main attraction in videos like “Tinder Date Cums In Me In A Tesla On Autopilot” and “Sexy Brunette Fucking While The Car is Driving,” where performers squirm and moan in a sticky front seat while whoever’s filming periodically glances at the road, watching other drivers drift by while presumably not also humping.

It’s sexy, but it’s not safe. Although the branding of both Autopilot and Full Self-Driving strongly imply that the cars can drive themselves, no current Tesla vehicle is capable of it. The former can perform basic driving tasks like auto steering and speed adjustment, while the latter can navigate public roads to some degree, but both still require constant observation, and frequent intervention, by a human driver.

Although Tesla makes that clear in the fine print, enthusiasts — and in some cases pornographers in the front seat, who have their hands on the wheel, but eyes on other things — have figured out ways to game the vehicles’ safety systems. One commenter on Reddit told us that, “in the early days [of Autopilot], you could get away with wedging an orange in the wheel to trick it.”

“I think we’ll see a lot more amateur porn shot in self-driving cars as the technology gets more popular,” Celen said. “A lot of it’s going to come from the OnlyFans models you’d expect to make it, but I think we’ll also see a lot of short vertical clips from couples who legitimately didn’t even think of the possibilities until that memorable road trip.”

Of course, danger is tightly linked to arousal. Macabre as it is, the risk of a fatal car accident — or at least a sense of rule breaking — might get some folks feeling horny.

“Plus, you get an added level of perceived risk of being pulled over,” Celen continued, “since autonomous vehicles are still supposed to have somebody behind the wheel (I say ‘perceived risk’ because I expect them to fake it).”

But Tesla Taylor, who brought Tesla porn to the mainstream in 2019, when CEO Elon Musk himself acknowledged one of her videos, told Futurism that she actually films with Autopilot — risks and all.

At first, she says, it was a gimmick.

“I had been working retail at a dead end job and was always interested in getting into the adult film industry,” Taylor told us over Twitter DM. “After doing a lot of research on how to get videos featured on PornHub, my boyfriend and I thought having sex in a Tesla while it self-drives on Autopilot could go viral.”

They were right. At first, the views accumulated slowly, but when large social accounts like Musk’s and PornHub’s brought attention to it, that changed.

“Overnight, I was getting radio stations and news outlets reaching out to interview me,” Taylor said. She still uses Autopilot in her videos, but as an owner of multiple Teslas with both Autopilot and Full Self-Driving capability, Taylor says she understands Autopilot’s “limitations,” touching the wheel every 30 seconds and often filming on straight, empty roads, which you can spot in her videos.

Other Tesla porn performers, including Bailey Base and Jodi West, did not respond to multiple requests for comment, but appear to take a similar approach.

But transportation reporter Jordan Golson wants viewers to know that you probably shouldn’t.

“The car appears to be much more capable than it is,” Golson said, “but if anything goes wrong you’re fucked. Literally. Not the fun way.”

Bottom line, Golson emphasized that although Tesla could eventually be capable of facilitating the road head of your sci-fi dreams — or nightmares? — it can’t yet.

“[This] is the opposite of safe sex,” he said. “Someday it’ll be fine. It is not that day yet.”

And although she doesn’t necessarily heed the same advice, Taylor agrees.

“I can definitely see car sex becoming more popular once Full Self-Driving is widely adopted and people become comfortable using it,” Taylor said, but “as of right now, I would not recommend doing it. It is very dangerous if you’re not familiar with the car and how Autopilot acts.”

But as much as Tesla porn might inspire you to ruefully scream at the clouds, or perhaps wear an extra seatbelt, the diehard nature of Tesla fans means the phenomenon is probably just getting started.

“People are always going to add sex to their hobbies if there’s an easy and obvious way to do it,” Celen said. “You don’t even have to be a professional masturbator to see that.”
