This Hands-Free Camera Attaches to Your Glasses and Takes Photos When You Wink

Google Glass is the much hyped augmented reality device that (unsurprisingly) no one wanted to be seen wearing. But apparently, people aren't giving up on the concept, and are still toying with eyeglass-mounted AR technology.

Take, for example, this device from Japan. The Blincam is a hands-free photography device that attaches to specs and takes pictures when you blink.

Blincam detects when there is motion around the eye, working only with an intentional strong wink but not with a small natural one. The device is mounted on conventional eyeglasses and supports Bluetooth connectivity to smartphones for management of the photos.

The Blincam was made public with a campaign on Japanese crowdfunding site Makuake, gaining 1,000,000 yen ($10,000) in just a few hours. It also debuted at several startup conferences, including The Bridge Fes and Slush Asia 2016.

The Blincam is scheduled to make an appearance at TechCrunch Disrupt SF in September and a Kickstarter campaign in November. The company intends mass-production and retail sales by 2017.
