One does not simply walk into Mordor, but if reports are to be believed, you won't need to traverse middle Earth, dodging Orcs, Shelobs, Wargs, Ringwraiths, and the Dark Lord himself, for a piece of Middle Earth is coming to our realm.
Indeed, a group of developers based in Morocco — designed by French architect agency, Volade et Pistre, and funded by Sheikh Tarek M. bin Laden — have announced their plans to build a real-life Tower of Sauron in Casablanca, Morocco (presumably, the eye won't be included). Once completed, it will become the tallest building in Africa, standing 540 meters (1772 feet) tall, called Al Noor Tower (which translates to the 'Tower of Light').
The current record holder is Carlton Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. It's about 223 meters (732 feet) high, and has 50 floors.
It hasn't been established whether the similarities were unintentional, but given the uncanny likeness, it seems unlikely. Perhaps we'll know more in the coming year, when soil testing is slated to begin.
