Japan is testing self-driving taxis for the 2020 Olympics

Japan is now allowing companies to test self-driving cars so that they can show off the technology for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. They are recruiting 50 local residents to ride in the cars alongside two representatives from the car companies.

The Implications

This is just another confirmation that self-driving cars will be an every day reality by 2020. Japan is competing with the likes of Uber and Google to be the first to put self-driving cars on the road, which will only hasten their proliferation.
