An individual’s hearing deteriorates as they age (no shocking news there). Older people generally have a harder time hearing high frequencies, so while most individuals will be able to hear frequencies at 8,000 Hz, and pretty much everyone under 50 can hear frequencies at 12,000 Hz, people who are 24 years of age or younger are generally the only ones who can hear frequencies at 17,000 Hz…and liars are the only ones who can hear frequencies at 24,000 Hz. The reason for this decline is that, as we age, the hair cells on on inner ears get damaged over time and do not regenerate.
The video provided will play tones at different frequencies, and it give you a good indication of how old your ears are. It also has a few other cool facts related to our ears.
