This fantastic whirl of color is none other than the iconic Orion nebula. The picture of the nebula was taken by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1995 as it surveyed the massive star forming region. The mountain found in the forefront of the image is found in the Alaskan wilderness.
These two images were combined to produce a truly breath taking image, a sight you might expect to see if Orion was much closer to Earth that it is currently, some 1,300 light-years away.
