The Breakthrough

The VR headsets made for the Marshmallow Laser Feast's event, "In the Eyes of the Animal,"  will allow users to experience the Grizedale Forest through the eyes and ears of the animal. With the use of LiDAR, CT Scanning, and aerial 360-degree drone filming, the participants will be able to hear the "sounds of the forest" through the wearable subwoofer and appreciate the forest's greenery. It also uses binaural sound design to simulate hearing through the animal's ears.

The Implications

Not only does it marry art and technology in a unique manner, but it aims for users to gain empathy by making them view their habitat how these animals see it. Given that these creatures have a completely different view of nature, working with this idea can lead to more unique applications in first person perspective VR.
