XM25 Counter Defilade Engagement System

The US Army is set to test out the XM25 - a smart "anti-defilade" grenade launcher that can hit targets even when they are shielded. A soldier with basic rifleman skills can easily operate the weapon with its built-in "target acquisition and fire control systems" that can calculate target distance, additional distance needed to clear obstacles, a new aiming point to on the target, and the setting needed to fuse a grenade in a chamber. The XM25 can accurately hit a 500m point target and a 700m target with area airbursts. By neutralizing an enemy even in a covered position, the soldier will remain safe and protected - thus, leading to a decrease in friendly casualties during battle.

The Specs

The XM25 is a shoulder-fired grenade launcher that launches a 25mm dual-warhead with low velocity and flat trajectory ammunition. It is made by Heckler and Koch alongside Orbital Sciences subsidiary Orbital ATK, and each weapon can carry five 25mm shells per clip. Other than the high-explosive airburst shell rounds for the XM25, non-lethal, armor-piercing, and door-breaching rounds are now currently being developed as well. The US Army plans to test the XM25 early 2016.
