"You know what I like about you? Your... Long... Legs..."

Love Machine

Maybe you struck out this past Valentine's Day. Maybe you aren't quite sure how to start dating again once you're vaccinated and the pandemic eases up enough for it to be safe. Thankfully, romantic artificial intelligence is here to get back on your feet.

Janelle Shane, a research scientist and noted AI tinkerer, is here to help. She trained variants of one of the most sophisticated text-writing AI algorithms in existence to churn out some extremely suave pickup lines, and archived the results in her latest newsletter. Frankly, you'd be foolish to not cop a few of them.

For instance, just read these and try to tell us that you didn't swoon:

"I'm losing my voice from all the screaming your hotness is causing me to do."

"You know what I like about you? Your... Long... Legs..."

Clickbait Saves

Shane wrote in her post that she didn't want GPT-3, the algorithm in question, to simply come up with depressingly human-like openers, so instead she told it to fill out the pickup lines that would appear in a listicle titled "These are the top pickup lines of 2021! Amaze your crush and get results!"

And results, we think, you would get. I mean, "I will briefly summarize the plot of Back to the Future II for you" is pure gold.

Of course, those are the cream of the crop generated by a particularly powerful version of GPT-3 called DaVinci. Other, weaker forms, Shane notes, struggled a little bit with the prompt and served as a heartbreaking reminder that even the best AI algorithms don't actually understand what they're saying.

Still, those weaker versions tried their best. Here are some of the, uh, better results:

"(In your best Albert Einstein voice) 'I wouldn't change a thing.'"

"Have you stolen anything today?"

Please, let us know how they work.
