• As Ramez Naam points out, that's more solar energy as the entire world generates today. A recent estimate says the world has 178GW of solar capacity. Naam adds that to hit that goal, China would need to install more solar power annually than the U.S. has installed in the last 30 years.
  • China's current solar figure is at 28 GW. Previous 2020 goals were around 100 GW. To achieve the new goal, China will need to install 30 GW of capacity per year.
  • Expect the finalized plan to be released in August.
