- According to an email sent to the University of Arizona, the company and university are working together on "workforce development and research efforts in optics, engineering, and education." The email also noted that "common areas of interest" include mapping and autonomous tech.
- From Uber's statement: "We’ll work with some of the world’s leading experts in lens design at the University to improve the imagery we capture and use to build out mapping and safety features... Tucson — and the University of Arizona — will be become the next home to our Uber mapping test vehicles. They are already on the streets in Pittsburgh, where we are working in partnership with another great university — Carnegie Mellon."
- The agreement will also include money for Arizona's College of Optical Sciences -- seems that optics and lenses (robot eyes) could come out of this partnership.
