  • They plan on using Medicago truncatula, a small clover-like legume for the mission.
  • They plan to shield the plants from radiation on Mars by keeping them in a closed, opaque container shielded from radiation and covered by multi-layer insulation sheets.
  • This will be the first life form sent from Earth to another planet, and plans were chosen to determine how and if they could be used in creating future environments on Mars.
