- The course, AAE/IE/490: Hyperloop Design, is a junior and senior level technical elective course. It’s listed in three different departments in Purdue’s engineering program: aerospace, mechanical, and industrial.
- The course’s requirements and assignments are based off of SpaceX’s Hyperloop pod competition, and although students will probably submit their work to the competition, it is an independent class. SpaceX’s CEO, Elon Musk, kicked off the recent Hyperloop hoopla by releasing a white paper through SpaceX.
- The first class was on Tuesday and Tech Insider says there are already 54 students enrolled. If you’d like to look at the required reading for the class — including a slide deck describing how Purdue is going to break down the work needed to engineer the Hyperloop — you can find it here.
