- Last year, Microsot launched XioIce, a "social assistant" that can be chatted with on social networks. Using what Microsoft learned when it taught its voice assistant, Cortana, to speak Chinese, XiaoIce is able to tell jokes, recite poetry, and use sentiment analysis to change responses based on positive and negative cues.
- According to the New York Times, Microsoft was able to pull off Xiaoice's personality by systematically mining the Chinese-language internet and applying language processing technology.
