What It Is

The D-Wave 2X has over 1000 qubits and needs to be kept very cold. Previously, the QAIL had purchased a previous D-Wave quantum computer. There's a good deal of controversy over whether D-Wave's systems are actually quantum computers, but it seems like very smart people want to continue the use of these kinds of systems.

The Implications

D Wave's CEO said in a statement:The new agreement is the largest order in D-Wave's history, and indicative of the importance of quantum computing in its evolution toward solving problems that are difficult for even the largest supercomputers." The computer's been installed at NASA Ames.
