An Improved Wireless Charger

LG's Innoteck division thinks that it has developed the best wireless charger yet. The South Korean tech company is set to release the world’s first ever 15 watt quick charging pad later this month.

"The 15 W wireless charging pad’s charging speed is three times faster than an existing 5 W wireless charging module. It can charge a completely depleted battery to the level of 50% within 30 minutes because it supplies 15W power to smartphone battery equal to wired quick charger," according to a press release by the Innoteck division.

Exploding Batteries Are Out

The new charging pad is compatible with the current stable of wireless-charging capable devices. What's more, it is equipped with technology that prevents batteries from overheating or exploding while charging (and right now, exploding batteries in mobile devices is a big issue).

“As a wireless charging module is directly related to the convenience and safety of the users, we will meet the expectations of our customers with advanced performance and perfect product quality,” says Sung Huh, an electronic components business division head. "We proved that we had the world best wireless charging technology."

Although it's been picked up rather slow by the market, wireless charging is growing. Base unit sales were at $553 million in 2015, according to market research firm TSR (Techno Systems Research Co., Ltd). It is expected to go up to $2.2 billion by 2019.

While pricing is yet to be specified, the LG quick wireless charging pad is set for release in Australian, European, and North American markets later this month.
