- The aerospace industry has recently become heavily dependent on 3d printing technology. The use of 3d printing technology has boosted the production of engines and aircraft parts by three to four times.
- For years, Boeing had troubles with the shipment of required aircraft parts. If 3d scanned files of aircraft parts could be stored in an easily accessible location, Boeing could print the missing or defective parts of an aircraft in hours. This would eliminate the extensive delays of shipments and sometimes, damages caused to the parts during deliveries.
- Although Boeing uses plastic based 3d printing method at present, the patent applications includes metal, alloy and plaster based 3d printing techniques, which may be implemented very soon.
