No Need for Umbrellas

Dubai never ceases to amaze. One upcoming attraction sure to leave us in awe and marvel is a 7,000 square-meter (over 75,000 square-feet) rainforest to be built inside the future Rosemont Hotel and Residences Dubai owned by Curio - A Collection by Hilton.

Lead architect and managing partner of ZAS Architects Dubai, DJ Armin, promises for a realistic rainforest feeling, without all of the soggy clothing. "Technological features include an advanced sensory rain system that creates a 360-degree experience, simulating the sensation of being surrounded by rainfall without actually getting wet." The high-tech system will recycle condensed water to create the humidity inherent in the natural environment of a rainforest.

Armin has high hopes for the project. "Our client's concept was to create a very unique destination for the city of Dubai, and also to create a project that would be a destination itself, with every possible leisure and entertainment amenity inside the hotel."

Forest in the City

The Hotel isn't anywhere near the beach so the architects thought of an alternative outdoor experience, and integrating nature with the city was the perfect idea. "Inside the rainforest, we've created a landscape akin to a full-scale tropical environment - complete with adventure trails, a sandless beach, a splash pool, waterfalls, streams and a rainforest cafe," says Armin. The pools will be an all glass "infinity" pools nestled outdoors of the tower, giving a glorious view of the Gulf.

The plans indicate the project is intended both to serve as a hotel with 448 rooms or suites and residences consisting of 280 apartments. Both will reside in a pair of 53-story-tall towers, connected by an outdoor rainforest.

The attraction is set to open in 2018 to hotel guests, as well as the public.
