title: "Watch 136 Years of Climate Change in New NASA Video"
description: "NASA has released a new video that illustrates global climate change over the course of 136 years, making clear the Earth's trajectory toward ever-increasing temperatures. Should this warming trend persist, we will continue to see the effect on the environment via animal and plant extinction events, oxygen-depleted oceans, and dying rainforests."

# Watch 136 Years of Climate Change in New NASA Video

We've already talked about how 2016 kept up with the three-year trend of successively [higher global temperatures](<https://futurism.com/weve-set-a-climate-change-record-for-2016-and-its-awful>) each year. Now, NASA has given us a way to watch the climate change over the course of nearly a century and a half.

It is clear to see in this video that the world is much warmer than it was even 50 years ago, let alone over a century into its past. According to NASA, "Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with 16 of the 17 warmest years on record occurring since 2001."

The trend is clear. We cannot continue to warm at our current trajectory. Despite the current surge in support for [climate change denial](<https://futurism.com/if-the-science-is-sound-why-do-people-still-deny-man-made-climate-change>), the facts remain the same: man-made [climate change is a real threat](<https://futurism.com/regardless-of-who-the-president-is-man-made-climate-change-is-real>) to humanity and the planet as a whole. Should this warming trend persist, we will [continue to see extinctions](<https://futurism.com/climate-change-threatens-to-destroy-the-planets-oldest-tree-species>) of both animals and [plants](<https://futurism.com/climate-change-threatens-to-destroy-the-planets-oldest-tree-species>) at modernly unprecedented rates. Oceans will continue to be sapped of [life-sustaining oxygen](<https://futurism.com/major-oxygen-loss-oceans-due-climate-change-will-apparent-2030s>), and tropical forests will continue to disappear, only to multiply the effects of a warming globe.

Even large companies are urging for the [support of renewable energy](<https://futurism.com/companies-release-joint-statement-urging-trump-to-join-fight-against-climate-change>) given the longterm and even immediate [monetary benefits](<https://futurism.com/solar-power-finally-becomes-the-cheapest-source-for-new-energy>), so with the bottom line and the needs of the environment now in alignment, we can only hope more will be done to mitigate this epic problem on a bigger scale.
