The Largest 3D Printed Parts in EU
Thales Alenia Space has recently announced that two telecommunication satellites, Koreasat 5A and 7, will be comprised of the largest 3D printed spacecraft parts made in Europe. These parts were printed by the Concept Laser Xline 1000R (the largest laser beam melting machine) through a process called "power bed additive manufacturing." Thales was able to save in weight, cost, and production time - while keeping the performance high. This is a perfect illustration of the enormous potential that 3D printing will play an enormous role in aerospace in the future.
