## Going Off

During an interview with *Fox Business Network* on Wednesday morning, U.S. President [Donald Trump blasted](<https://www.foxbusiness.com/technology/trump-us-should-sue-google-facebook>) several of the biggest tech companies in the world, arguing that they're all run by Democrats and biased against conservatives.

Roughly four hours later, the White House [announced plans](<https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-socialmedia/white-house-plans-new-social-media-summit-as-congress-raises-questions-idUSKCN1TR2M1>) to host a social media summit on July 11, meaning Trump is presumably just a few weeks away from having the opportunity to share his criticisms with tech companies directly — if any of them agree to show up.

## Cold Shoulder

White House spokesperson Judd Deere [told *CNBC*](<https://www.cnbc.com/2019/06/26/white-house-to-host-social-media-summit.html>) via a statement that the purpose of the summit is to "bring together digital leaders for a robust conversation on the opportunities and challenges of today’s online environment."

Deere didn't mention who those digital leaders will be, but it's hard to imagine hosting a tech summit and not inviting [Facebook](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/government-make-example-mark-zuckerberg>), [Twitter](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/nasa-head-trump-moon-tweet>), and [Google](<https://futurism.com/google-teach-kids-spot-fake-news>).

However, both Facebook and Twitter declined [*Politico's* request](<https://www.politico.com/story/2019/06/26/white-house-social-media-summit-1383280>) for comment on the summit, while Google didn't immediately respond to it.

Perhaps the chilly reception to the invitation has something to do with Trump telling *Fox* just hours earlier that Twitter purposefully tries to stifle his message and that the U.S. government should [sue Google and Facebook](<https://www.digitaltrends.com/news/donald-trump-says-government-should-sue-facebook-and-google/>).
