## Low-Poly Hummer

It's finally here: Tesla CEO Elon Musk's [unveiled](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/tesla-elon-musk-unveils-blade-runner-cybertruck>) his passion project "Cybertruck" at a flashy Thursday evening event in Los Angeles.

And the reactions to the, uh, polarizing design are coming — mostly in the form of ridicule on Twitter.

## Blade Runner

We've known for a while that the truck will look it just rolled out of an 80s sci-fi movie — Musk has been hinting at the design for a while now.

"Actually, I’m personally most excited about the pickup truck," Musk [gushed to *Recode*](<https://www.vox.com/2018/11/2/18053424/elon-musk-tesla-spacex-boring-company-self-driving-cars-saudi-twitter-kara-swisher-decode-podcast>) in a November 2018 interview. "Well I can’t talk about the details, but it’s gonna be like a really futuristic-like cyberpunk, ‘Blade Runner’ pickup truck."

"You know, I actually don’t know if a lot of people will buy this pickup truck or not,” Musk said at the time, "but I don’t care."

## Burn Ward

And well, it's here now. On Twitter, the unapologetic design of the truck's brutalist chassis earned a good deal of ridicule.

It's a reaction that Tesla was likely ready for — not everybody is going to love a pickup truck that looks like a shiny door stopper.

But there are a fair number of supporters as well — even if some came with caveats.

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
