## RadioWhack

RadioShack — the [once-bankrupt](<https://www.investopedia.com/articles/investing/081315/5-reasons-why-radioshack-went-out-business.asp#:~:text=In%20February%202015%2C%20RadioShack%20(RSHCQ,each%20other%20and%20generated%20losses.>) strip mall electronics staple which was brought back from the dead and turned into a [blockchain company](<https://decrypt.co/88712/yes-radioshack-pivoted-defi>) for some reason — has chosen chaos for its social media strategy.

A scroll through the device retailer's Twitter account reveals some shockingly profane — and absolutely NOT safe for work — tweets, in a somewhat bizarre attempt to revive a name that was once synonymous with mail-order catalogues and car stereos.

"If you find a squirter marry her," reads one [romantic missive](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1542195771780390913?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1542195771780390913%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwordpress.futurism.com%2Fwp%2Fwp-admin%2Fpost.php%3Fpost%3D259197action%3Dedit>), presumably penned by one of the company's social media managers.

"Taking the second half of an edible after feeling nothing from the first half is always a bad idea," the retailer [tweeted](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1541867145704837120>) in an another unwarranted public service announcement. "This chocolate bar got me out here fighting for my life."

The account also took some profane shots at [NASA](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1539453329117532160>), [Wendy's](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1540540672960122881>), [Jake Paul](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1541473207042969600>), and basically anyone who's [into NFTs](<https://twitter.com/RadioShack/status/1540745612806823937>).

Which begs the question: what's with the sudden, uh, strategy shift?

## Mayhem Machine

In an email, a company representative involved with the tweets told Futurism that the new social media energy is part of a brand effort to revive RadioShack's name.

"RadioShack used to be the cool store that nerds went to back in the good old days," the rep told Futurism. "These days, due to the monopolization of the Internet, other big brands are getting all the bread so we're trying to get back into our game."

It's interesting to see RadioShack take such an extreme direction, especially as they've been specifically marketing themselves as an approachable crypto platform [for boomers](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/radioshack-crypto>).

Seriously, their whole new shtick is that older CEOs are more likely to trust an established, old-school company.

"The older generation simply doesn’t trust the new-fangled ideas of the Bitcoin youth," their official motto, [announced last year,](<https://docs.radioshack.org/radioshack-defi/fundamentals/why-radioshack-in-crypto>) reads, adding that they were "seeking to woo" adults with "authoritarian, intelligent, and well-read" qualities.

In any case, we wish them all the best in their Twitter pursuits — but we certainly won't be shocked if the approach ends up backfiring.

## Author
At Futurism, I've reported extensively on the rise of AI as a cultural and business force shaping the media industry, and more broadly how those dynamics are changing how we all consume and share information and relate to one another. I'm also fascinated by public health policy and ethics, the role of emerging tech in politics and governance — and the powerful people and forces at those intersections — climate change, and the environment. My investigation on Sports Illustrated's use of AI-generated authors with fictional biographies won a 2024 Mirror Award for "Best Story on Media Coverage of Artificial Intelligence in Journalism and the Media" from Syracuse University's SI Newhouse School, I contributed to Niemen Lab's 2025 Predictions for Journalism series, and I've discussed my work for Futurism during appearances on NPR, CNN, the BBC, the CBC, and more. I grew up in rural Pennsylvania and attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where I played Division I field hockey for the Minutewomen as a midfielder. Since then, I've lived in New Orleans, Louisiana and Manhattan, New York. I spend my free time running, reading, perusing archival fashion, and searching for the world’s best negroni. I also have a debonair tuxedo cat, Westley, who's named after "The Princess Bride."
