## MuseNet

Artificial intelligence non-profit OpenAI just unveiled an extraordinary AI music tool called Musenet. The tool generates musical compositions, with multiple instruments and in wide-ranging styles from classical music to country music, according to [OpenAI's website](<https://openai.com/blog/musenet/>), where you can experiment with the tool yourself.

The deep neural network doesn't necessarily understand music theory or composition, but by training it on huge data sets of jazz, pop and world music, OpenAI researchers taught it to produce convincing, genre-bending tunes.

## Rachmaninoff's Poker Face

OpenAI was co-founded by Elon Musk in 2015, but Musk [confirmed in February](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/elon-musk-quits-research-group>) that he'd left the organization due to disagreements with the group's direction. MuseNet uses a similar algorithm to a previous OpenAI project that [generates impressively coherent text](<https://futurism.com/amazing-new-ai-churns-out-coherent-paragraphs-of-text>).

On the site, you can choose between a number of famous classical composers in order for the AI to come up with a composition in their style. All it needs to do its thing is a starting point, which can be anything from the first notes of Mozart's "Rondo alla Turca" to Lady Gaga's "Poker Face."

So if you ever wanted to hear Bon Jovi's take on the first six notes of Chopin, here's your chance. You can even sit down for an entire 1 hour 50 minute [concert stream](<https://www.twitch.tv/videos/416276005?t=08s>).

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
