## Cybertimber

Clever engineers [have built](<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUp1KHIfme0>) an entire (almost) full-scale model of a Tesla Cybertruck — out of wood.

The laborious process, as documented in a 20-minute video summarizing 100 days of build time, shows Vietnam-based woodworker Trương Văn Đạo and his collaborators first constructing a metal frame, before cladding it with carefully tailored pieces of wood.

And the resulting varnished and electrically motorized product, a spitting image of Tesla's brutalist EV pickup, almost seems [more carefully put together](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/cybertruck-looking-rough>) than the real thing, as far as we can tell.

## Wood Panel Gaps

The attention to detail is truly astonishing. The sizable truck bed even houses a wooden "Cyberquad," a perfect replica of the [small ATV](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/elon-musk-yes-buy-tesla-cyberquad-atv>) Tesla showed off during the Cybertruck's unveiling four long years ago.

It's not the first Cybertruck model we've come across over the years. We've seen [functional half-scale models](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/youtubers-build-functional-half-scale-cybertruck>), [Russian knockoffs](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/buy-knockoff-russian-cybertruck>), and even one almost entirely [made out of cardboard](<https://cleantechnica.com/2020/11/11/diy-tesla-cybertruck-with-cardboard-cybertruck-updates/>).

It took Tesla a whole lot longer than 100 days to translate its Cybertruck design into a capable, real-life pickup. In fact, despite having [announced](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/tesla-elon-musk-unveils-blade-runner-cybertruck>) the truck well over four years ago, the company is [still weeks away](<https://insideevs.com/news/693912/tesla-cybertruck-delivery-event-webpage-lottery/>) from its long-awaited delivery event.

Musk's many [personal shortcomings](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/elon-musk-sharing-coronavirus-misinformation>) and disastrous product rollout aside, Trương clearly has plenty of admiration left for the mercurial CEO.

In a letter addressed to Musk, appended to his video, the inventor wrote that he's "aware that Tesla has faced its share of challenges in bringing the Cybertruck to fruition."

"However, I maintain unwavering faith in your vision and the capabilities of Tesla," he added. "I am confident that this extraordinary vehicle will ultimately succeed."

Given his engineering prowess and attention to detail, in our view, maybe Tesla and Musk could learn a thing or two from Trương.

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
