# Elon Musk Just Tweeted Using SpaceX Satellite Internet

## SpaceX Internet

Elon Musk just sent a tweet using internet provided by the constellation of Starlink satellites launched by his spacetech company SpaceX.

"Sending this tweet through space via Starlink satellite," [he wrote](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1186523464712146944>) earlier this morning on Twitter. "Whoa, it worked!!" he added in a [follow-up tweet](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1186524008621043713>).

Musk's space company has launched [only 60](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/spacex-unleashes-starlink-satellites>) of [up t0 30,000 planned](<https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/15/spacex-files-paperwork-to-launch-up-to-30000-more-starlink-global-internet-satellites/>) Starlink satellites into space so far. The goal is to launch a global and reliable internet service — but for now, SpaceX is only planning to roll out the service in the U.S. and parts of Canada next year, [according to *TechCrunch*](<https://techcrunch.com/2019/10/15/spacex-files-paperwork-to-launch-up-to-30000-more-starlink-global-internet-satellites/>).

## Avoiding Collisions

The planned constellation of satellites has been met with a fair amount of skepticism. Starlink satellites, both current and future, are orbiting the Earth at much lower altitudes than regular communication satellites, causing astronomers to raise concerns they [might ruin the night sky](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/spacex-starlink-satellites-ruining-night-sky>).

In September, the European Space Agency [tweeted](<https://twitter.com/esaoperations/status/1168533241873260544>) that it had to perform a "[collision avoidance](<https://time.com/5667047/spacex-satellite-collision/>)" maneuver to avoid a crash with one of SpaceX’s Starlink satellites. [According to *Forbes*](<https://www.forbes.com/sites/jonathanocallaghan/2019/09/02/spacex-refused-to-move-a-starlink-satellite-at-risk-of-collision-with-a-european-satellite/#22c477101f62>), SpaceX refused to do anything at first — but later [blamed the decision](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/spacex-blames-bug-satellite-collision>) on a bug.
