## "I Support Yang"

On Saturday, SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk endorsed Democratic candidate Andrew Yang for the 2020 presidential election.

"I support Yang," Musk [tweeted](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1160253482424684544>) on Saturday, in response to a different Twitter user who was commenting on [Yang's tweet](<https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1160249303488765952>) about how "changing one's mind is not a bad thing."

"Thank you Elon - this means a great deal," Yang [replied](<https://twitter.com/AndrewYang/status/1160262281999060992>). "Congrats on building the future."

## Universal Talking Points

Musk shares several views with Yang, most notably Yang's endorsement of a basic income, something that is "obviously needed," as Musk pointed out in a [Saturday follow-up tweet.](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1160254295981215745>)

Basic income is the idea that every citizen deserves a basic amount of money from the government to be part of society. Yang proposed to give each American a monthly $1,000 — something Yang says could even [address climate change](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/yangs-climate-plan-start-moving-higher-ground>).

## Goth President

The notoriously jokey Musk followed up by [tweeting](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1160253730538700801>) that Yang would be "our first openly goth president. I think this is very important."

The post may have been a nod to Yang's mostly black wardrobe — or just more silliness from Musk.

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
