## Another Selloff

Months after [claiming he was done](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/elon-musk-sells-7-billion-tesla-shares-twitter>) selling Tesla stock, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has unloaded another $3.95 billion worth of Tesla shares, according to regulatory filings.

That means the billionaire CEO has sold around $36 billion worth of Tesla stock in the last twelve months, [*Reuters* reports](<https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/elon-musk-sells-195-mln-tesla-shares-worth-395-bln-sec-filing-2022-11-09/>) — a stunning selloff, and almost certainly a direct result of his [ill-advised](<https://futurism.com/elon-musk-melts-down-advertisers-twitter-chaos>) and [terribly executed](<https://futurism.com/elon-musk-twitter-ethical-ai>) bid to take over Twitter.

The selloff doesn't bode well, as Musk's erratic leadership at the site has been far from confidence inducing. Tesla has already suffered quite a bit this year, with [stock tumbling 46 percent](<https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/musk-sells-another-batch-tesla-133550551.html>).

## Not Done Yet

Over the weekend, Musk sold another 19.5 million Tesla shares. While the paperwork filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission doesn't directly point out the purpose of the sale, analysts believe it likely has to do with his bid to finance his $44 billion Twitter deal.

According to *Reuters*, Musk still needed to raise an additional $2 to $3 billion to for the deal after selling $6.9 billion worth of shares back in August.

Meanwhile, Tesla [fell short of Wall Street expectations](<https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2022/oct/19/tesla-quarterly-revenue-elon-musk>) after announcing third quarter results last month. The company has been dealing with supply chain issues and hasn't been immune to a global economic slowdown, either.

Musk's chaotic acquisition of Twitter has only injected even more uncertainty, with the CEO going as far as to [pull Tesla employees](<https://futurism.com/elon-musk-engineers-tesla-autopilot-twitter>) to help him out seize control of operations at Twitter.

"It looks like Musk is preparing for things to stay bad at Twitter for the next year," Gene Munster, managing partner at Loup Ventures, [told *Bloomberg*](<https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/musk-sells-another-batch-tesla-133550551.html>). "He’s preparing for Twitter to be a money hole."

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
