## Musk Dance

He had to do it.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk [showed off his incredibly awkward dance moves](<https://twitter.com/tesla_adri/status/1506255163388010503>) during the electric car company's grand opening of its Gigafactory in Berlin, Germany today.

It's a bit of a tradition now. During a 2020 event celebrating the first deliveries at the company's Gigafactory in Shanghai, Musk [also did an awkward "NSFW" jig](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/watch-elon-musk-dance-nsfw-chinese-tesla-factory>) and what can only loosely be described as a striptease.

So hats off, Musk. You've done it again.

## Long Road

"Danke Deutschland!!" Musk [tweeted](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1506262079963111440>) to commemorate the opening.

The billionaire certainly has reasons to celebrate the opening of the company's massive new factory in the heart of Europe. Tesla has been put through the wringer throughout the process of constructing the factory, from [major objections from locals](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/tesla-gigafactory-berlin-objections>) to [serious environmental concerns](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/germans-protesting-berlin-tesla-gigafactory>).

The company persevered, though, and was finally [granted its very last environmental permit](<https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-giga-berlin-new-jobs-final-approval/>) earlier this month.

"Excited to hand over the first production cars made by Giga Berlin-Brandenburg tomorrow!" Musk [tweeted on Monday](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1505977175488483339>).

## Filling Positions

Now, the company has the considerable task of getting things rolling, from establishing supply lines to filling out positions.

In fact, the [company's careers page](<https://www.tesla.com/careers/search/?query=gigafactory&region=3&country=DE>) is filled to the brim with hundreds of open positions at the new Berlin plant, including supervisor, engineer, electrician, and quality assurance roles.

The factory will also feature Tesla's "most advanced paint shop," [according to Musk](<https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1250211364141858817?lang=en>), "with more layers of stunning colors that subtly change with curvature."

It's a big day for the company, highlighted by Musk's clumsy moves. Chances are, we'll be seeing him doing another shuffle when the company opens its next plant in Austin, Texas some time this year.

And frankly, he probably deserves a little celebration.

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
