## Last Laugh

Remember when morons [reportedly thought](<https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/qjdvvd/a-disturbing-number-of-people-think-coronavirus-is-related-to-corona-beer>) there was some sort of connection between the deadly coronavirus and the brand of light beer called Corona Extra?

Well, [now *CNN* reports](<https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/03/business/corona-beer-production/index.html>) that the coronavirus has shut down production of Corona beer in Mexico, where the government [suspended non-essential businesses](<https://cnnespanol.cnn.com/video/extienden-cuarentena-mexico-30-abril-sana-distancia-coronavirus-covid-19-sot-hugo-lopez-gatell/>) last week — and didn't count beermakers as essential.

## Beer Run

Grupo Model, the company that makes Corona, said in a statement provided to *CNN* that it's standing by with a plan to "guarantee the supply of beer" if Mexico reconsiders its non-essential categorization.

And *CNN* also reported that Constellation Brands, which distributes Model's beverages in the United States, said during an earnings call that it has a backup supply and doesn't expect any shortages.

## Author
I'm responsible for editing, assigning, and scouting at Futurism, as well as occasionally writing for the site. That work involves keeping an eye on a wide range of narratives and issues, but over the past few years I've become increasingly interested in how AI is shaping the future of media, the web, and information itself. My day-to-day often involves collaborating on reporting and commentary projects bylined by my colleagues, but I try to find time to do my own reporting as well; stories I've broken for Futurism have been cited by publications including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the New Yorker, Wired, Ars Technica, New York Magazine, the Columbia Journalism Review, Bloomberg, and more. I grew up in Southern Vermont and attended Vanderbilt University. Prior to Futurism, I contributed to outlets including the Boston Globe, Vice, Wired, Slate, the Atlantic, the Outline, Ars Technica and more, and did stints in farming and food service. I currently live in Brooklyn, New York, and in my free time I enjoy pinball, word games, cycling, running, and music production.
