# Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

## Nobel Effort

17-year-old Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize, the [*Associated Press* reports](<https://apnews.com/0de2df48946e41f27b4e6acd1169a5c2>).

It's the [second consecutive year](<https://thehill.com/changing-america/sustainability/climate-change/481194-greta-thunberg-nominated-for-nobel-peace-prize>) that Thunberg has been nominated for the coveted prize.

Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, both members of Sweden's Left Party, said that Thunberg "has worked hard to make politicians open their eyes to the climate crisis" and that "action for reducing our emissions and complying with the [Paris Agreement](<https://futurism.com/tags/paris-agreement>) is therefore also an act of making peace," as quoted by the *AP*.

## Fridays for Future

Thunberg has had a turbulent last few years, rising to become the face of the environmental movement and gaining international recognition in the process.

She's known for encouraging [millions](<https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/sep/27/climate-crisis-6-million-people-join-latest-wave-of-worldwide-protests>) of students worldwide to skip school last year and join her "[Fridays for Future](<https://www.fridaysforfuture.org/>)" movement, demanding faster action on climate change.

Thunberg was also [named](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/climate-activist-greta-thunberg-time-person-year>) *Time*'s Person of the Year in 2019.
