Burglar Discovers You Can “Peel” Cybertruck and Access the Inside

A clever car burglar broke into a vacant Cybertruck by popping one of the windows ajar and then peeling it wide open, which should alarm any owner of the Tesla vehicle, which has been marketed for its shatter-proof glass and tank-like exterior.

"No Alarm, No Notifications to my phone... literally nothing happened just found it like this..." wrote Cybertruck owner Anuj Thakker, who shared the upsetting news on Facebook a few days ago.

Thakker, who lives in Atlanta, Georgia, posted footage from a Cybertruck camera that shows a hoodied person exit a red sedan that parked next to his Cybertruck.

After he looked inside the vehicle, the burglar took a tool from the red car and popped ajar the driver side window of the Cybertruck. The glass shattered but the window still kept its shape, probably due to an adhesive layer that keeps the Tesla window glass layers laminated together.

The burglar then peeled down the window and reached inside for an unattended backpack before leaving in the getaway car.

It's a rude awakening for Thakker, who may have bought into the Cybetruck's various security features, from the alarm to the so-called shatter-resistant armor glass that's supposed to be able to withstand substantial impacts.

But if you've been following the development of the Cybertruck, the glass window's failure does not come as a huge surprise.

Back when Tesla CEO Elon Musk first unveiled the brutalist pickup in 2019, a Tesla designer threw a metal ball at the Cybertruck to demonstrate the strength of the glass — but the glass shattered onstage. This seemed to be a harbinger for the twists and turns of the Cybetruck's journey to the world's roads, which has been beset with many production delays and quality control issues.

Even now with the Cybertruck out in the public, the vehicle has been subject to at least four recalls for problems with its wiper motor, accelerator pedal getting stuck, trunk issues, and trim pieces falling off.

As for the glass windows, there have been reports of the glass shattering due to hail and owner mischief, including one case in which a Tesla fan walked on a Cybertruck and broke the glass windshield.
