## Appsolute Unit

For the past week, the tech press has been [breathlessly obsessing](<https://www.wsj.com/video/series/joanna-stern-personal-technology/airpods-pro-fit-test-how-well-do-they-stay-in/A2835696-0F62-4AF7-A53A-E49D89FCD345>) over Apple's AirPods Pro, the latest version of its [wireless-earbud-slash-status -symbol](<https://futurism.com/the-byte/site-decorative-apple-airpods>).

Here at Futurism, we honestly can't be bothered with a new version of the [awful, unserviceable gadget](<https://www.vice.com/en_us/article/neaz3d/airpods-are-a-tragedy>). But we couldn't help but admire this [fully functional, hammer-sized Bluetooth AirPod](<https://www.reddit.com/r/mildlyinteresting/comments/drpoc0/i_made_a_large_10_tall_fully_functional_bluetooth/>) built by handy Redditor Master\_Aar17.

Seriously, just look at it:

## Ear Hole

Master\_Aar17 even [posted a video](<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GI23jxo9Etc9jYeAfx0VboKh5EKvnhMA/view>) of the colossal earbud playing the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun," along with [schematics](<https://grabcad.com/library/10-tall-airpod-3d-printed-with-base-model-1>) of the novelty-sized gadget.

Unfortunately, though, Master\_Aar17 said he has no plans to bring the gigantic earpiece to market.

"Sadly I can't sell it because Apple would get pissed," the Redditor wrote, "but yeah several people have asked if it's available for purchase."

## Author
I'm responsible for editing, assigning, and scouting at Futurism, as well as occasionally writing for the site. That work involves keeping an eye on a wide range of narratives and issues, but over the past few years I've become increasingly interested in how AI is shaping the future of media, the web, and information itself. My day-to-day often involves collaborating on reporting and commentary projects bylined by my colleagues, but I try to find time to do my own reporting as well; stories I've broken for Futurism have been cited by publications including the New York Times, the Washington Post, the New Yorker, Wired, Ars Technica, New York Magazine, the Columbia Journalism Review, Bloomberg, and more. I grew up in Southern Vermont and attended Vanderbilt University. Prior to Futurism, I contributed to outlets including the Boston Globe, Vice, Wired, Slate, the Atlantic, the Outline, Ars Technica and more, and did stints in farming and food service. I currently live in Brooklyn, New York, and in my free time I enjoy pinball, word games, cycling, running, and music production.
