SingPost has successfully completed drone delivery tests in a remote part of Singapore with the help of Infocomm Development Agency (IDA) Labs, who made a customized drone for the trial. The drone delivered a t-shirt, taking five minutes to cover 2.3km. SingPost claims this is the first time in the world an official postage service has used a drone for “point-to-point, recipient-authenticated” mail delivery.
A representative of SingPost shared that “drone delivery is far from mass deployment” and that they’re not working with any specific timeline. The company still has a few kinks to sort out with the government in terms of technical viability as well as regulatory and safety protocols. The same representative also mentioned that Singapore has no infrastructure for it as of now, and economic circumstances might not allow drone delivery just yet.
