Video captured by [security cameras]() perched on the mountainside show the horrifying moment when the wall of mud descended on the Gyirong Port facility, swallowing the six-story building whole as dozens of people run for their lives. Within seconds of the mudslide's arrival, the six-story Gyirong Port building is completely consumed by the muck. Authorities quickly declared a [national emergency](), as nearby roads, communication towers, and electrical infrastructure was likewise wiped out in the tragedy. On top of torrential monsoon rains over the last few weeks, sources interviewed [by *CNN*]() suspect that an earthquake may be responsible for shearing off a chunk of glacier, which tumbled into a river valley, displacing Biblical volumes of water. "What is hard to reconcile is the gargantuan volumes of water that we see in these, these absolutely horrific videos," Daniel Shugar, a geologist at the University of California told *CNN*.
