In the United States, fully vaccinated means receiving both first and second shot of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. "Fully vaccinated persons who meet criteria will no longer be required to quarantine following an exposure to someone with COVID-19," reads the [CDC's updated website](). To meet the criteria, you'll need to have had both doses, be within three months following the receipt of the last dose, and have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID exposure. "Persons who do not meet all 3 of the above criteria should continue to follow current quarantine guidance after exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19," the CDC advises. These recommendations are subject to change as more data becomes available on the various COVID vaccines. People who have been vaccinated should also still socially distance, wear a mask, avoid crowds, and wash hands often, according to the agency — which, of course, is just common sense and basic hygiene. ## Author I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing.
