- The image is tinted blue because of effects of sunlight scattered by air molecules. NASA researchers is working to remove this atmospheric effect from future images. They will also provide a daily series of Earth images, available 12 to 36 hours after acquisition, to be posted to a dedicated website by September 2015.
- This image of the Earth was taken by NASA’s Earth Polychromatic Imaging Camera (EPIC), generated by combining three separate images to create a photographic-quality image. It was taken by the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) satellite.
- DSCOVR, a partnership between NASA, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the U.S. Air Force, aims to maintain the nation’s real-time solar wind monitoring capabilities, which are essential for NOAA to produce accurate and timely space weather alerts and forecasts.
