- According to Reuters, the purchase will make "Lockheed less reliant on the $391 billion F-35 fighter jet business." The F-35 is undergoing combat readiness tests this month, but is widely seen as an expensive boondoggle.
- The purchase means that Lockheed Martin is now a one-stop shop for aviation with fixed-wing and rotary wing divisions. Sikorsky was the world's largest military helicopter maker.
- The deal is planned to close in late 2015 or early 2016 but regulators need to sign off first.
