It Keeps Going and Going: New Tech Doubles e-Bike Battery Life
This should put a damper on that frightening range anxiety.
Though battery life isn’t much of a problem for electric bikes as it is for electric cars, you likely wouldn’t want to have to peddle all the extra weight of an electric bike. Still, adequate range is an ongoing problem for eBike riders.
Bosch, a multinational electronics and engineering company, revealed a new product to tackle just that.
One step on the pedal and the power kicks in: announced at last week’s Eurobike 2016, Bosch will be releasing a new double battery pack that would juice up your eBikes to a whopping 1,000 Wh of power, capable of running up to 180 km (112 miles) without running out of juice.
Though it may not seem like it, the DualBattery is more than just a basic backup battery like the ones you have for your phones.
According to New Atlas, it’s an integrated two-battery system connected via a Y-cable connector, that provides seamless power transmission and charging for your electric bike. Providing a perfect symbiosis for the rider and the eBike, this battery pack will allow its user to enjoy an electric ride further than ever before.
The new battery system will not be available to consumers in retro-fitting kits but will instead be provided directly to manufacturers. The system allows for a few options in mounting capabilities, as to give those manufacturers some wiggle room when considering design.
