title: "Hyperloop One is Taking Their Futuristic, High Speed Transport Underwater"
description: "Hyperloop One, a Los Angeles-based startup, is interested in building a Hyperloop that can travel underwater—relocating the ports from the coastline to 10 miles off shore. Using this technology, regaining used land for more practical uses in the future would not only be a possibility, but a reality."

The quest for better utilization of our vast sea and underground space continues. As companies all over the world struggle to find the most optimal route for their cargo transports, a Los Angeles-based startup, Hyperloop One, might just bring their worries to an end.

Peter Diamandis, a [Hyperloop One](<https://hyperloop-one.com/>) board member and CEO of the [X-Prize Foundation](<http://www.xprize.org/>), told [*Business Insider*](<http://www.businessinsider.com/hyperloop-one-designing-underwater-hyperloops-for-cargo-transportation-2016-8>) that the startup is interested in using Hyperloop to transport cargo underwater from the coastline to ports 10 miles off shore.

Diamandis said that having the Hyperloop travel underwater would prevent issues with shipping lanes and eliminate direct emissions, noise, delay, weather concerns and pilot error.

"We've been talking to a lot of the port authorities around the world about re-engineering their ports in this kind of fashion," Diamandis said. "Conceptually, I think one of the things that's interesting about the future is there's a lot of underutilized space underground," and, "...I think one of the areas the Hyperloop can become an expert in is tunneling technology in the future."
