The Mysterious Faraday Future
The mysterious new electric car company known as Faraday Future will be unveiling its first concept car at January’s Consumer Electronics Show. Little is know about the new car, but it’s expected to be an autonomous electric vehicle like Tesla’s Model S.
Ultimately, Faraday Future’s hired former BMW exterior designer Richard Kim as its head of design. This strongly implies it will look something like a BMW X6, but sadly, we will have to wait a few weeks to find out for sure. In an interview with the Verge, Kim said that they are designing the car “from the inside-out” and employing new technologies – like the Oculus Rift – in the design process.
Not Just a Car Company
In the interview, The Verge spoke with Faraday Future co-founder Nick Sampson, a former director of vehicle and chassis engineering at Tesla, about the what to expect from the company. He said that they want to create a car that will “Just turn up when you need it. You don’t have to own it. You can just call it up on your phone, or you could pre-book it, or it’ll just know when you need it.”
The company is looking to be more than simply a carmaker as it embraces the digital age and looks into further integrating smart-cars into a user’s daily life.
On the Faraday Future website, it says that “we are also developing other aspects of the automotive and technology industries, including unique ownership models, in-vehicle content and autonomous driving.”
