# Mac Users Are Nuking Every Trace of Apple AI on Their Machines

Apple hasn't exactly impressed with its AI offerings. And privacy-minded Mac users were even less compelled by the company's decision, with macOS 27, to remove a setting that allowed you to disable and delete its Apple Intelligence features.

But never count an annoyed userbase out. As [spotted by *MacRumors*](<https://www.macrumors.com/2026/10/05/apple-intelligence-removal-tool-frees-mac-storage/>), someone's created a new open-source tool that allows Mac users to nuke every trace of Apple's borderline useless AI models from their machines — and it's already making waves in the Mac community.

The tool, called RemoveMacAI, disables Siri, Writing Tools, Genmoji, Image Playground, and the ChatGPT Extension, the developer [explained](<https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/1ww1exr/macos_27_dropped_the_apple_intelligence_off/>) in a r/MacOS post that's received over a thousand upvotes. To ensure you keep living a blissful AI-free existence, the tool also prevents the Intelligence features from ever being downloaded again, the developer claims.

Even if you like AI features, you'd have to admit that Apple's aren't the most practical. The above "Genmoji" is a gimmicky tool that lets you use AI to generate custom emojis. Many discussions about it online are along the lines of "does anyone actually use this?"

The upshot is that many feel that they aren't worth the disk space they take up. Using RemoveMacAI could save you around 12 GB of storage, but some users say their Apple AI installation takes up a full 35 GB. Neither number is anything to sneeze at, considering that many owners opt for the most affordable MacBooks with just 256 GB of storage.

The GitHub [repository](<https://github.com/omlahore/RemoveMacAI>) of the project has already received nearly 2,000 stars, and has spawned dozens of forks. Clearly there's a demand for this stuff.

Mac enthusiasts on Reddit praised the project, but lamented the fact that something like this was needed in the first place.

"Sad to see that you have to debloat macOS like Windows," one user commented.

## Author
At Futurism, my work has often centered on bringing a sense of clarity and insight to complex topics ranging from the regulation of emerging technologies to the esoteric ideologies of Silicon Valley executives, while striving not to lose the poetic sense of awe inspired by often-obscure fields like astrophysics and quantum computing. I broke the story of CNET using AI to produce articles that turned out to be riddled with factual errors and plagiarism — a dam-breaking inflection point, as I've reported, that's inspired copycats and endless discourse while beguiling stakeholders ranging from tech giants to purveyors of spam around the web. My work at Futurism has been cited by publications including CBS News, the Los Angeles Times, Vice, Gizmodo, Engadget, the Verge, and Vanity Fair. I grew up in locales ranging from India to China, and now live in the exotic suburbs of Virginia. In my free time, I'm an avid reader of weird sci-fi literature, an aficionado of East Asian cinema, and, regrettably, a relapsed gamer. Allegedly, I’m working on a debut novel, currently untitled.
