# Astronomy Photo of the Day: 7/14/15 — Milford Sound

This image combines the heavens and Earth in a beautiful way. Besides the Milky Way, it features Milford Sound, which is (unsurprisingly, I might add) located on New Zealand's South Island.

In day-light hours, [Milford Sound](<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milford_Sound>) is known for its natural waterfalls and fjords, but when the Sun disappears from the Sky and darkness creeps in, its skies—along with the South Island as a whole—are among the [best in the world](<http://media.newzealand.com/en/story-ideas/aoraki-mackenzie-dark-sky-reserve,-nz/>) for seeing and capturing our galaxy in all its glory.
