The first time I saw this image, it was reported as a ‘meteor and its reflection’. That description epically failed my smell check. One quick Google search later, and I had found the true nature of this photograph. In reality, we see the Space Shuttle Endeavour launching from the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge in Ponte Vedra, Florida – specifically, Kennedy Space Center’s pad 39A. We are looking at the scene as it appeared on February 8, 2010 at 4:14am, about 115 miles from the launch site. The image was named “Waterway to Orbit” by NASA’s APOD.

The two minute exposure shows the 32nd shuttle mission blastoff to the International Space Station against a background of star trails and the waning crescent shape of the Moon. And of course, you have the fantastic reflection mirroring the launch.
