But you'll have to sign a non-disclosure agreement.

Body Scans

Amazon wants to buy your bikini pictures, and it's willing to give you $25 in store credit for the trouble.

At least, that's according to an Amazon program that a Mashable employee came across in the form of a targeted ad saying the tech giant is recruiting people to sign up for a 3D full-body scan — form-fitting clothing preferred — that will be used for "internal product research."

Hush Hush

Participants are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement that prevents them from discussing the scan or the project at large. But Mashable reports that the online retail giant is working with a company it acquired called Body Labs that uses artificial intelligence to create realistic 3D renderings of people based on a 2D image.

The idea behind the scans is to give Amazon and Body Labs' software a more comprehensive array of diverse body types to sample, according to the online signup form.

Unresolved Questions

The research could lead to more realistic and diverse CGI models for people sampling clothes online, but Body Labs originally used computer vision technology to collaborate with law enforcement groups, Mashable reports.

Because of the NDA built into this privately-funded research, we may not know what it's used for until someone reports back.
