Waymo's fleet of autonomous taxis has garnered a reputation for causing mayhem on public streets, from [trapping drivers in hours of hopeless gridlock](<https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/waymo-san-francisco-drivers-traffic-gridlock>) to [driving into oncoming traffic](<https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/waymo-california-driving-oncoming-traffic>).

The fact that there isn't any adult supervision in the form of a driver has led to plenty of debaucherous behavior, from [incessant smoking](<https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/self-driving-taxi-company-annoyed-naughty-passengers>) and [adult activities](<https://futurism.com/san-francisco-sex-self-driving-taxis>) to [posses of teens hanging out of the windows](<https://futurism.com/advanced-transport/teens-party-in-waymo>) of moving Waymos.

But now, in a rare — and perhaps much-needed — win, a Waymo vehicle took matters into its own hands by delivering two 15-year-lds, who were drinking alcohol and shooting water beads known as Orbeez out of the moving car's window, straight to the San Mateo police.

"Parents do you know where your teens are?" the department [wrote in a tongue-in-cheek update on Facebook](<https://www.facebook.com/CityofSanMateoPolice/posts/pfbid02sR8hDnQJji1EJVc3m3GtPFxU8c6PgQnjG9Cgh5FJYrMsbqycYRJTZmokka6AUKqAl>). "Waymo does!"

"After calling us and stopping the car, we were able to safely remove both subjects and determined they were shooting Orbeez from the car as they sipped on afternoon libations while being chauffeured around town in the driverless vehicle," the police department wrote.

The teens caused quite a stir. An [video](<https://www.facebook.com/100064480458792/videos/pcb.1457476246411710/2428145947684610>) show heavily armed police officers and even a K9 unit searching the Waymo vehicle. After all, even toy guns "pose real dangers, especially to an untrained eye," per the update — an unfortunate reality for a country massively struggling with gun control.

"The simple handling of them can cause fear in passersby or to those who don’t get a good look," the department wrote.

Looking on the bright side, at least the teens didn't get behind the wheel while under the influence.

"Well, the Waymo might have been the smartest idea yet, because driving impaired would've made this so much worse," the update reads.

## Author
I've been at Futurism since 2017, where my role has evolved to encompass design, writing, and increasingly editing. I've always been fascinated by space exploration and advanced transportation, which I've leaned into by interviewing luminaries in those fields while closely following the dimensions of policy and regulation that allow next-generation projects to succeed -- or, sometimes, to fail. I'm also keenly interested in the effects of generative AI on society, policies, and democratic institutions, as well as clean energy, physics and biology, and the vagaries of tech leadership. My work for Futurism has been cited by publications including Ars Technica, Gizmodo, PC Magazine, Jalopnik, Fox News, and the New York Post. I spent my childhood living in locations including Manila, the Philippines, and Geneva, Switzerland, attended McGill University, and now live in Toronto, Canada. Before Futurism I worked at AskMen and a small photography studio. In my free time, I'm an avid gardener, foodie, and craft beer lover, as well as a maker of artisanal hot pepper sauces. I have a magnificent dog named Freida.
