A new electric car startup out of the UK is hoping to beat Tesla at the range game. The company, called Alcraft Motor Company, is aiming to become “Britain’s electric car company” with its Alcraft GT. The company claims the electric car has a range of “300+ miles,” according to Electrek. “We want to build a British car company which brings together traditional skills and high technology for the emerging low carbon car market,” the company said in a statement.
Alcroft is aiming to gather £600,000 ($783,996) through the platform in order to build their first hybrid. Should all go well, the company is likely to seek more funding to allow production to begin as soon as 2019. As of writing, the campaign is just at one percent of their goal with two months left to meet their crowdfunding deadline.
The anticipated price of the finished vehicles would be well above even the highest end of Tesla’s offerings: the company is aiming to sell their cars for between £130,000 to £145,000 ($169,809 – $189,402).
2019 is a long way away, and there’s plenty of time for Tesla to work on both extending their range and continuing to allow their prices to fall in line with what average consumers can afford.
