- The new techniuqe can produce lenses in seconds. It uses a laser pulse to create patters on a transparent substrate, then reflects the laser back onto itself, and the interference pattern is then "printed" between the two beems. The resulting lenses have hundreds of zones that focus light.
- The great thing about this new technique is that it's also ripe for mass production. It can work on a variety of materials and shapes.
- Applications for this technology include printing telescope lenses in space, or embedding data. The researchers hope to apply the technique to print lenses on semiconductors, as well.
